JAMMU: The CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, organised a workshop on grant writing and startup funding to strengthen the region’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, bringing together scientists, incubator leaders, government representatives and aspiring entrepreneurs.
The programme was organised by the IIIM–Technology Business Incubator (IIIM-TBI) and the BioNEST Bioincubation Centre at CSIR-IIIM Jammu in collaboration with the BioNEST Bioincubation Centre at IBTP Kathua and the Mission Yuva J&K Govt.
Iqbal Choudhary, CEO SKUAST Srinagar and former Director of Agriculture, attended as a guest.
Those present on the occasion included Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director CSIR-IIIM and Chairman IIIM-TBI; Dr. Saurabh Saran, Senior Principal Scientist at CSIR-IIIM and Principal Investigator at IIIM-TBI; Gauri, representing Mission Yuva; and Dr. Vidushi Abrol, Business Manager, IIIM-TBI Jammu.
The workshop focused on guiding startups and innovators in accessing funding, developing viable business models and navigating incubation support systems.
Dr. Zabeer Ahmed underscored the need to build a strong culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the region. He emphasised that scientific research combined with incubation and funding support can generate impactful enterprises, create jobs and contribute to economic growth.
Iqbal Choudhary spoke about the vast potential for agri-based and climate-specific enterprises in Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that the region’s diverse climatic conditions allow cultivation of a variety of crops and development of value-added products, opening opportunities in agriculture, food processing and allied sectors. He encouraged young entrepreneurs to adopt technology, strengthen post-harvest management and explore national and international markets.
Dr. Saurabh Saran briefed the guest and participants about the incubator’s initiatives and the support available for translating ideas from laboratory research into market-ready products.
He highlighted the importance of structured mentorship, access to testing facilities and focused guidance to help young ventures become competitive and sustainable.
Gauri explained Mission Yuva’s framework to promote entrepreneurship in Jammu and Kashmir.
She said the mission supports enterprises across categories such as nano enterprises, MSMEs and innovative startups, particularly in sunrise sectors.
She outlined the application process on the Mission Yuva portal, including registration, document submission, screening by expert panels and final selection for incubation and funding. She added that selected startups receive incubation support from centres such as CSIR-IIIM.
The workshop saw participation from several enterprises, including Tribe Foot, Jagriti Products, Daman & Doseeza Pvt. Ltd., Sranas OPC and Essential Ayurveda, reflecting growing interest in innovation-led businesses in the region.
Dr. Zabeer Ahmed felicitated Iqbal Choudhary and Gauri during the event. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Vidushi Abrol, who coordinated the sessions and interactions.
The workshop concluded with interactive discussions, with participants seeking clarity on funding avenues, incubation pathways and strategies to convert innovative ideas into successful ventures.
