JAMMU: The Social Studies Department of Heritage School organised an insightful guest lecture on January 29, 2025, on the topic “Economic Activities Around Us” as an academic extension of the Class VI Social Studies chapter “Livelihoods, Economies and Societies.” The initiative aimed to help students link classroom concepts with real-life economic practices and societal structures.
The programme was held in the esteemed presence of Principal Akash Pradhan, Vice Principal Rashmi Thakur, Headmistress Hemneet Kour, Coordinator Classes VI–VIII Pooja Khanna, and HOD Social Science Sonu Puri, along with faculty members and students of Class VI.
The school had the honour of hosting Manpreet Kour, Additional Mission Director, Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission, as the guest speaker. A 2008 KAS officer, Manpreet Kour has served in several key administrative roles and is presently engaged in strengthening rural livelihoods and promoting economic empowerment across the region.
The session commenced with a warm welcome and bouquet presentation by the Principal. In her address, Manpreet Kour explained various forms of livelihoods and economic activities and their impact on society, using simple language and practical examples aligned with the Class VI syllabus. She highlighted the role of agriculture, small-scale industries, self-help groups, and government initiatives in creating sustainable livelihoods, making the topic engaging and relatable for young learners.
The lecture effectively reinforced the concepts from the chapter and helped students understand the interdependence between livelihoods, economies, and societies. Students listened attentively and gained valuable insights into how economic activities influence everyday life.
The programme concluded with the presentation of a memento to Manpreet Kour by the Principal as a token of appreciation, followed by a formal vote of thanks. The guest lecture proved to be an enriching academic experience, successfully bridging theoretical learning with real-world applications and leaving a lasting impression on the students.
