JAMMU: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Regional Office Jammu, celebrated National Sports Day with enthusiasm, paying tribute to legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary.
The programme focused on the importance of sports and physical fitness in building a disciplined, confident and healthy society.
Chief Guest Er Amitabh Manhas, XEN and a national-level volleyball player, said sports play a vital role in developing discipline, coordination, teamwork and leadership qualities, which are important not only on the playing field but in every sphere of life.
He was also felicitated with an Award of Honour during the programme.
On the occasion, Shamsher Singh, SSSA, Regional Office Jammu, who has represented at the national level in volleyball, was honoured for his contribution and achievements in sports.
Ashish Sharma, JTO, and Yashpal Gupta, SSA, were also presented tokens of appreciation for undertaking the FITINDIANSD2026 Challenge, also referred to as the 29 Challenge.
Speaking on the occasion, Sumeet Singh, RPFC-I, Regional Office Jammu, urged the youth of Jammu to make sports and fitness an integral part of their lives.
“The spirit of sports teaches us perseverance, discipline, teamwork and the courage to overcome challenges,” he said.
The celebration also paid homage to Major Dhyan Chand, whose sporting legacy continues to inspire generations to pursue excellence through dedication, discipline and determination.
The programme concluded with EPFO Jammu renewing its commitment to promoting fitness, sportsmanship and a healthy lifestyle, particularly among youth, in keeping with the spirit of Fit India.
