JAMMU: An inspection of the Prison Legal Aid Clinic and e-Mulaqat Help Desk of DLSA Jammu at District Jail, Amphalla was organised today by DLSA Jammu under the guidance of Sh. Tahir Khurshid Raina, Principal District & Sessions Judge / Chairman, DLSA Jammu.
The visit was conducted by Ms. Maleeka Sharma, Civil Judge (Senior Division) / Secretary, DLSA Jammu.
During the visit, the Secretary inspected the Prison Legal Aid Clinic. She interacted with the Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) deputed at the clinic and checked the registers and record maintained by them, including the details of inmates approaching for legal aid, applications for free legal counsel and cases referred to DLSA.
Necessary instructions and guidance were imparted to the PLVs to maintain proper record, to remain vigilant towards the legal needs of the prisoners, to assist undertrial prisoners in getting legal aid and to ensure regular follow-up of their cases.
Thereafter, she inspected the e-Mulaqat Help Desk which has been set up with the aim of providing assistance and guidance to the family members of prisoners regarding the e-Mulaqat facility, through which prisoners can meet their families virtually.
The functioning of the help desk and the record of visitors availing the e-Mulaqat facility was checked. Ms. Maleeka Sharma emphasized that the help desk should provide all possible assistance to illiterate and unaware family members in scheduling their meetings and should ensure that the facility is used in a smooth and hassle-free manner.
