SRINAGAR: Proceedings of the fourth day of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly session began amid protests by Congress members, who raised banners inside the House demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar.
As Congress MLAs displayed the banners, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather asked them to take their seats, stating that the Assembly had no authority over the Election Commission of India.
Meanwhile, National Conference MLA from Pahalgam, Altaf Kaloo, raised an issue with the Speaker over a video involving him that had circulated on social media. Kaloo alleged that the video, which showed him in conversation with another party MLA, had been presented out of context.
“The video has been presented in a wrong way on social media,” Kaloo said.
The Question Hour subsequently commenced, but the proceedings were disrupted again when Congress MLAs entered the well of the House carrying banners. The Speaker urged the protesting members to return to their seats and warned them against further disruption.
“Before I take action against you,” Rather told the protesting members.
Following the Speaker’s intervention, the Congress MLAs returned to their seats, allowing the Question Hour to continue.
