NEW DELHI: A record over 7.8 crore income tax returns (ITRs) have been filed for Assessment Year 2026-27 till August 31, the Income Tax Department said on Tuesday. The figure is higher than last year, when more than 7.3 crore ITRs were filed by September 16, 2025, the extended deadline for non-audit cases for Assessment Year 2025-26. “A record 7.8 crore+ ITRs have been filed for AY 2026-27 as on August 31, 2026,” the Income Tax Department said in a post on X. PANAJI: IndiGo flight 6E 2102 operating from Goa to Delhi returned to Manohar International Airport at Mopa shortly after takeoff on Tuesday morning following a reported technical issue, with all 229 passengers on board safe. As per airport sources, the flight took off from Manohar International Airport at around 9:28 am, and subsequently made an emergency landing back at the airport after a reported engine snag. KATHUA: A pigeon bearing a ring inscribed with what appears to be a Pakistani mobile number was found in a border village of Hiranagar sector in Kathua district, prompting police to launch an inquiry. The death toll from the devastating flash flood in Nepal rose to 987 on Tuesday, with security forces recovering more bodies from different parts of the country, officials said. The authorities estimate that 3,916 people, including 583 foreigners, remain unaccounted for as security personnel, including those from the Nepal Army, intensify search and rescue operations in the affected areas.
