SHOPIAN: To foster scientific temper, curiosity and a passion for astronomy among students, School Education Department, through Chief Education Officer (CEO) Shopian, organized a “Moon Gazing and Night Sky Observation Camp” at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Sedow, first of it’s kind in the district.
Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The programme was organized in collaboration with the Innovative Science Communicators Association and supported by the Cultural Education Wing of the CEO Office Shopian.
The camp provided a hands-on platform for participating students and teachers to engage in practical astronomical observations, explore celestial bodies and learn about space science.
The programme featured interactive sessions, sky observation through specialized telescopes, guided lectures and expert-led theoretical sessions aimed at inspiring young minds to explore STEM fields.
Addressing the gathering, ADDC emphasized the vital role of experiential learning and praised the Education Department’s initiative in bringing practical scientific exploration directly to the students.
In his speech, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone stated that students should fully involve themselves to prepare for every field so they can bring laurels to their teachers and parents. He urged students and educators to pursue their chosen professions religiously and emphasized that when dedication is maintained, the nation proceeds to produce better professionals, including doctors, engineers and scientists.
The ADDC further added that the government is actively working to facilitate students regarding scientific inventions and initiatives. He stressed the need to train students to compete, excel and go ahead in their respective fields at both national and global levels, noting that it requires dedicated effort.
He said that teachers carry a great responsibility in nurturing and guiding students in schools. He emphasized that teachers should extend their valuable services to do justice to their noble profession and fulfill their societal assignments.
Experts from National Institute of Technology, Srinagar and other dignitaries also spoke on the occasion.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and staff across the region.
