POONCH: Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonch Tahir Mustafa Malik today flagged off a batch of 52 local farmers for a specialised horticulture training programme in Srinagar. The farmers were flagged off in the presence of Chief Horticulture Officer (CHO) Uttam Lal.
The specialised training programme has been organised to provide farmers with technical knowledge, practical exposure and experience of modern and improved horticulture practices.
During the programme, the farmers would visit and receive training at the Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (CITH), Rangreth; SKUAST-K, Shalimar, Centre of Excellence, Zawoora and C.A. Store, Lassipora, Pulwama.
The programme shall also include field visits to local orchards in Shopian and interactions with progressive orchardists and nursery growers, enabling the participating farmers to gain practical insights into modern orchard management, nursery production and other advanced horticultural techniques.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADC emphasised the importance of capacity building and exposure visits in enhancing farmers’ knowledge and encouraging the adoption of modern technologies in the horticulture sector.
The programme aims to enhance the technical skills and knowledge of local farmers and promote the adoption of improved horticultural practices for increased production, productivity, quality and income generation.
The initiative is expected to provide the participating farmers with valuable practical exposure that can subsequently be shared with other growers in the district, thereby contributing to the overall development and modernisation of the horticulture sector in Poonch.
