JAMMU: Jodhamal Public School hosted a series of Scouts and Guides camps, providing students with an immersive experience in outdoor learning, leadership, and survival skills. The camps were organised to promote the Scouts and Guides movement and instil values of teamwork, self-reliance, and responsibility among students.
More than 90 Scouts and Guides from two Sopans—Pravesh and Pratham—enthusiastically participated in the camps.
The Pravesh Camp, attended by 49 students, served as an introduction to Scouting and Guiding. Conducted over two days, the camp focused on familiarising participants with the core principles and practices of the movement. Students engaged in team-building activities, basic survival skills training, and learned the fundamental values of Scouts and Guides, laying a strong foundation for their journey ahead.
The Pratham Sopan Camp, a three-day programme involving 41 students, offered advanced skills training. Participants practised tent pitching and knotting techniques and took part in BP Six exercises aimed at improving physical fitness and mental discipline. They also engaged in practical first-aid scenarios and outdoor cooking sessions, learning to prepare basic meals in camp conditions.
The patrol system was actively implemented, with leadership responsibilities distributed among participants to strengthen organisational and teamwork skills. Cooking sessions and wilderness-based activities further enhanced students’ independence, confidence, and problem-solving abilities.
Across both camps, students participated in key activities including tent pitching, knotting, patrol system exercises, BP Six drills, and outdoor cooking sessions. These activities helped them develop essential traits of leadership, discipline, endurance, teamwork, and responsibility.
The camps were organised under the guidance of LT Kotwal, ALT K. L. Sharma, Guide Captains Dolly Chandhoke and Manvinder Kour, and Scout Master Nasir Latief Batt.
All participants displayed remarkable enthusiasm and commitment throughout the camps, embracing the opportunity to learn new skills and take on outdoor challenges. The initiative proved to be a resounding success, fostering leadership, self-reliance, and community spirit among students, and strengthening their foundation in the Scouts and Guides movement.
