JAMMU: A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Private School Association (JKPSA), led by its Chairman Kamal Gupta, on Wednesday called on Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE), G.H. Sheikh, to discuss issues related to the academic interests of students and administrative challenges faced by private schools.
During the meeting, the JKPSA urged the Board to curtail the syllabus for the forthcoming annual examinations in the Jammu division, on the lines of the Kashmir division, to prevent academic loss to students. The delegation pointed out that adverse climatic conditions during August and September last year had disrupted the academic calendar, affecting teaching schedules and student preparedness.
G.H. Sheikh patiently heard the concerns raised by the delegation and assured them that appropriate and timely measures would be taken to safeguard the interests of the student community.
The meeting also discussed difficulties faced by private schools in getting their managing committee files approved, particularly due to delays in CID and police verifications.
Acknowledging the issues, the Board Chairman assured the delegation that a proper mechanism would be devised to address their genuine grievances. He emphasised the need to ease certain norms to create an enabling environment in which the private sector can grow alongside the government sector, thereby giving a significant boost to literacy and education standards.
Members of the delegation present at the meeting included Deepak Handa (Senior Vice President, State Body), Sanjeev Luthra (Treasurer), Lal Chand Gandotra (President, Jammu District) and Vijay Sharma (General Secretary, Jammu District).
