JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested four government officials in three separate cases for demanding and accepting bribes in Udhampur and Rajouri districts.
In the first case, registered at Police Station ACB Udhampur, the Bureau received a complaint alleging that Anil Jamwal, Junior Assistant posted in the office of the Superintending Engineer, PWD R&B Udhampur, along with Jeet Kumar, Computer Operator in the office of the Executive Engineer, PWD R&B Udhampur, demanded illegal gratification from the complainant for issuance of a contractor card.
Following discreet verification, which confirmed the demand of bribe, FIR No. 02/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 61(2) of BNS, 2023 was registered. A trap team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police successfully caught both officials red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹12,000 in the presence of independent witnesses. The bribe amount was recovered on the spot, and searches were conducted at locations in Ram Nagar and Laddan Power House, Udhampur, in the presence of a Magistrate.
In the second case, registered at Police Station ACB Rajouri, ASI Zamurat Manhas, posted at Police Station Mendhar, was arrested for demanding bribe from a complainant in connection with a dispute over money. The accused allegedly threatened the complainant with detention under the Public Safety Act if the bribe was not paid. Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap and arrested the ASI red-handed while accepting ₹5,000. Searches were conducted at his residential premises in Mendhar, Surankote and Jammu.
In another case from Rajouri, Mohd. Razaq, Patwari posted at Patwar Halqa Sokar/Prori, Koteranka, was arrested after he demanded bribe for recording the names of the complainant’s daughters in the revenue records. The accused was caught red-handed while accepting ₹10,000 as bribe during a trap operation. Subsequent searches were carried out at his residence.
Further investigation in all three cases is in progress, officials said.
