JAMMU: Jammu (Rural) Police achieved a significant success by arresting a notorious drug peddler and recovering a chitta-like narcotic substance during routine patrolling and naka checking at Old Bridge, Akhnoor, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Akhnoor.
During the naka checking, police noticed a motorcycle bearing registration number JK02DL-9671 coming from the Ambarain side towards Akhnoor. On spotting the police naka, the motorcyclist attempted to flee in a suspicious manner, immediately raising suspicion.
Acting swiftly, the alert police team led by PSI Zahid Ahmed Ganai, along with other officials of Police Station Akhnoor, successfully apprehended the motorcyclist. During questioning, the individual failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for his attempt to escape.
A personal search of the apprehended person led to the recovery of approximately 6 grams of chitta-like narcotic substance from his possession. Upon further inquiry, the accused was identified as Ajay Singh, son of Balbir Singh, resident of Ambarain, Akhnoor.
The recovered contraband was seized on the spot following all due legal procedures in the presence of a Magistrate. In this connection, FIR No. 12/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Akhnoor, and further investigation has been initiated.
The investigation has been entrusted to PSI Rafiq Ahmed Rather of Police Station Akhnoor. Police teams are actively working to establish backward and forward linkages of the seized narcotics, including identification of the source of procurement, supply chain, and intended recipients.
Raids are underway at suspected locations, and further arrests are likely, police officials said.
