SURAT: Jammu and Kashmir created history on Tuesday as the JKCA’s Under-16 men’s team clinched the prestigious Vijay Merchant Trophy, securing the association’s first-ever BCCI tournament title with a commanding innings and 182-run victory over Mizoram in the final.
Skipper Smagey Khajuria led from the front with a composed century, while Atharav Sharma remained unbeaten on 92 as J&K posted a massive total of 400 runs, taking a decisive 300-run first-innings lead.
The J&K bowlers then wrapped up the contest in emphatic fashion, bundling Mizoram out for just 118 in their second innings. Left-arm spinner Sanil Singh and pacer Jaskaran Singh starred with the ball, ensuring a historic triumph for the side.
The victory marks a landmark moment for cricket in Jammu and Kashmir, as the JKCA celebrated its maiden BCCI tournament title.
