JAMMU: In view of the prevailing security scenario, Deputy Inspector General of Police, JSK Range, Shiv Kumar, IPS, on Tuesday reviewed the operational preparedness in the Billawar area of Kathua district.
The review was conducted in the backdrop of the recent firing incident reported from the Soan area of Udhampur district.
The security review was attended by SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma, IPS, SSP Samba Varinder Manhas, DySP Arjun Singh Chib, SP Operations Billawar Amir, SP Operations Kathua Mukund, IPS, CO CRPF, SDPO Billawar and SHO Billawar. The DIG also visited Kamla Top, Billawar, to assess ground-level security arrangements and deployment.
During the review, DIG Shiv Kumar emphasised the need to maintain peace and security across the region and directed all officers to remain extra vigilant and proactive in their respective jurisdictions. He stressed the importance of strong inter-agency coordination, stating that effective cooperation among police, CRPF and Army is crucial to address potential security challenges.
The DIG reviewed the deployment of forces and instructed that additional manpower be mobilised in sensitive and vulnerable areas to prevent any untoward incidents. He highlighted the importance of intelligence gathering and timely sharing of inputs to effectively counter security threats. The performance of jawans deployed on the ground was also reviewed, and their morale was boosted during the interaction.
He further assessed the overall law and order situation, including the readiness of the police force in terms of manpower and resources. Officers were directed to maintain high visibility, intensify patrolling and security checks, and remain alert at all times.
SSP Kathua briefed the DIG on the prevailing security situation and the measures being taken to ensure peace and law and order in the Billawar area. During the visit, DIG Shiv Kumar also held a joint meeting with Army authorities and assured them that the Jammu and Kashmir Police will continue to work in close coordination with all security agencies to maintain peace and stability in the region.
