SRINAGAR: The Food Safety Department Anantnag has imposed an immediate ban on the sale of Priyagold Butter Delite biscuits (Batch No. E25KPO2FB) after laboratory analysis declared the product unsafe for consumption.
According to officials, the action was taken following routine inspections during which a Food Safety Officer collected samples of the biscuit brand. The samples were forwarded to the National Food Laboratory, Ghaziabad, for testing.
In its analysis report (No. JK-665/DEC/25/786, dated 05-12-2025), the laboratory confirmed that the biscuits contained sulphite levels beyond the maximum permissible limit, rendering the product unsafe.
Authorities warned that consuming food items with sulphite levels above approved thresholds can pose significant health risks. “Manufacturing or selling unsafe food items is prohibited under Section 3(1)(zz)(xi) of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006,” the order states.
Exercising powers under Section 36(3)(b) of the FSSA, Designated Officer Sheikh Zameer Ahmad has ordered a strict district-wide prohibition on the sale of the affected batch until further notice.
Traders, shopkeepers, and distributors have been directed to immediately withdraw the product from shelves and ensure full compliance with the order.
