JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday paid rich tributes to legendary warrior and military strategist General Zorawar Singh on his Martyrdom Day, describing him as one of India’s greatest commanders whose vision continues to inspire generations.
“General Zorawar Singh’s vision inspired generations by igniting passion, guiding people toward a shared vision, courage, purpose and commitment to bigger ideals,” the Lt Governor said while addressing a commemorative event in Jammu.
He highlighted the General’s historic military campaigns across Ladakh, Baltistan, Gilgit and Skardu, and his pivotal contribution to the expansion of the Dogra Empire.
Calling upon the youth to draw inspiration from the great warrior’s life, the Lt Governor said, “We must follow his message for moral clarity, unwavering conviction to shape a better future and empower the marginalised. Let us dedicate ourselves to changing lives, guiding and supporting youth, and building a more just and peaceful society.”
LG Sinha reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to honouring the contributions of General Zorawar Singh under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“To honour his legacy, an advanced indigenous light tank has been named after General Zorawar Singh Ji. The General Zorawar Singh Chair has also been established at the University of Jammu. Dedicated efforts are being made to encourage new generations to study his unparalleled military campaigns and vision for societal organisation,” he added.
The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Vikram Randhawa, MLA Bahu; Devinder Singh Kaluria, Chairman of the General Zorawar Singh Memorial Education and Charitable Trust, along with Trustees Riya Kaluria and Diksha Kaluria; Lt Gen RK Sharma (Retd.), President J&K Ex-Services League; and Brij Mohan Sharma, Principal Secretary Culture.
Also present were Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal (Retd.); Padma Shri Dr SP Varma, President, Gandhi Global Family J&K; Col. Karan Singh (Retd.), President, Dogra Sadar Sabha; ex-servicemen, senior Army officials, and officers from the civil and police administration.
