SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that over 5,200 posts of doctors and paramedics are currently lying vacant across health institutions in the Union Territory.
Responding to a question raised by MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz, the Minister in-charge of the Health and Medical Education Department said that 1,635 gazetted and 3,616 non-gazetted positions remain unfilled in the department across Jammu and Kashmir.
The Minister further informed that during the past two years, 197 gazetted and 772 non-gazetted posts have been referred to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) for recruitment.
He added that the department has been engaging staff on academic arrangements as an interim measure to ensure healthcare services continue without major disruption, until all sanctioned posts are filled on a regular basis.
