SRINAGAR: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, today organized a comprehensive legal awareness programme at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Kothibagh, Srinagar.
The initiative aimed to sensitize students about critical legal and social issues, with particular emphasis on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, drug abuse, and the Domestic Violence (D.V) Act.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arief, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, and conducted under the guidance of Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge and Secretary, DLSA Srinagar.
Addressing the gathering, Jahan Ara, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel, DLSA Srinagar, delivered an insightful lecture on the POCSO Act and the menace of drug abuse, elaborating on their legal provisions and the importance of safeguarding children and youth. She stressed the role of awareness in prevention and the necessity of timely reporting and intervention in such cases.
Further, Panel Lawyer, DLSA Srinagar, highlighted the provisions of the Domestic Violence Act. She explained its significance in protecting women against abuse and ensuring their rights within the family structure.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from both students and faculty, who actively engaged in discussions, thereby fostering a constructive dialogue on rights, protection, and available legal remedies.
DLSA Srinagar reaffirmed its commitment to promoting legal literacy among the youth, recognizing them as pivotal stakeholders in creating a more informed and empowered society.
