JAMMU: The Traffic Police Jammu has issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the Jammu Mid-Night Marathon, scheduled to take place during the intervening night of October 31 and November 1, with restrictions and diversions coming into force from 11 pm.
Organised by Real Time Sports Jammu, the marathon is expected to attract around 1,000 participants across five categories — 5 km, 10 km, half marathon, 20 km and the full marathon of 42.2 km, according to an advisory issued by the Office of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic City Jammu.
The marathon will start from MA Stadium and pass through Jewel Chowk, GGM Science College Road, the Steel Bridge near Canal Head and the Akhnoor Road Flyover. Runners will take a U-turn near the JKSSB office at Muthi before returning along the same route and proceeding towards Nai Basti Flyover and Gandhi Nagar via Bikram Chowk, before finishing at MA Stadium.
The Traffic Police said vehicular movement would remain restricted along the marathon route during the passage of participants. All lanes and by-lanes connected to the route will be plugged, and no vehicular movement will be permitted through the affected stretches during the event.
To minimise inconvenience, commuters have been advised to use designated alternative routes.
Vehicles travelling from Samba and Kathua towards Nagrota, and vice versa, will have to take the Kunjwani Chowk–Narwal–Qasim Nagar–Nagrota route.
Vehicles coming from Gangyal, RS Pura and Miran Sahib towards Bikram Chowk and Akhnoor will be diverted via Satwari, Military Hospital, Beli Charana, the Fourth Tawi Bridge, Ware House, Bhagwati Nagar and Canal Head.
Commuters travelling from City North towards the railway station, Jammu Airport, Satwari and Kunjwani will be required to use Akhnoor Road beneath the flyover, proceeding through Canal Head, the Fourth Tawi Bridge, Beli Charana, Military Hospital and Satwari. Vehicles moving from City South towards City North will follow the same route.
The Traffic Police clarified that the Tawi Bridge at Sidhra and the Fourth Tawi Bridge at Bhagwati Nagar would remain open to the general public throughout the marathon.
Three designated parking areas have also been earmarked for participants: the right bank of the Tawi River opposite the Mandir Masjid point, the left bank of the river opposite Ware House, and the Ware House premises.
Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly, follow traffic directions and use the designated diversions to avoid inconvenience during the marathon.
