SRINAGAR: Amar Singh College, Srinagar, under the aegis of Principal, Prof. (Dr.) TahminaYousuf, organised Phase I of the Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations – 2026, featuring an Inter-College Symposium and Shanti Doot Presentations on “Truth and Non-Violence.”
The programme was organised by the Debates, Seminars and Conferences Committee in collaboration with NSS and ELC, with participation from colleges across District Srinagar.
Padma Shri Dr. S. P. Verma, President, Gandhi Global Family (GGF), J&K, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Noor-ul-Amin, General Secretary, GGF; Mehjabeen Nabi, Member, GGF; and Aijaz Khan, Chairman, Aijaz Khan Foundation, were also present.
Following jury evaluation by Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, Dr. Master Showkat Ali and Dr. Shabeena Parveen, Aishah Zahoor of Gandhi Memorial College, Srinagar, secured the first position and was adjudged Shanti Doot for District Srinagar. Shahid Pervaiz of Amar Singh College secured second position, while Afeefa Khurshid of Government Degree College for Women, M. A. Road, Srinagar, secured third position.
Speaking on “Truth, Non-Violence and Humanity: The Gandhian Road Ahead,” Padma Shri Dr. S. P. Verma highlighted the continuing relevance of Gandhian values. All participants were felicitated with AngVastra and medals by Gandhi Global Family. The Aijaz Khan Foundation awarded ₹5,000 to the first-position holder and ₹2,000 to each participant.
The Kashmiri rendition of “Vaishnav Jan To,” translated by Shahbaz Hakbari and performed by renowned singer Gulzar Ahmad Ganai, was also presented.
