JAMMU: FICCI FLO Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh on Friday flagged off a first-of-its-kind women-led Electric Vehicle (EV) Rally from the TRC Complex in Jammu, bringing together 22 women across 10 electric cars to promote sustainable mobility and responsible tourism in the Union Territory.
The rally was flagged off by Director, Industries & Commerce, Jammu Arun Manhas and Joint Director, Tourism, Jammu Aijaz Qaiser Malik, in the presence of FICCI FLO JKL members and other stakeholders.
The initiative seeks to highlight the potential of electric mobility in Jammu and Kashmir, an ecologically sensitive region where tourism plays a significant role in the economy. Organisers said the rally aims to demonstrate how green mobility, environmental sustainability and tourism can come together to build a more responsible and future-ready tourism ecosystem.
As part of the journey, the EV convoy will make stops at selected tourist destinations, showcasing Jammu’s diverse tourism potential while encouraging travellers to explore locations beyond conventional tourist circuits.
FICCI FLO JKL Chairperson Varsha Bansal said the initiative was aimed at demonstrating that tourism growth and environmental responsibility can move together. She said the women-led rally would showcase the tourism potential of Jammu while promoting sustainable mobility.
Arun Manhas described initiatives promoting clean mobility as an important step towards creating awareness about sustainable practices and their potential role in Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism and economic growth. Aijaz Qaiser Malik highlighted the region’s diverse tourism destinations and said such initiatives could help bring greater attention to lesser-explored locations while encouraging responsible travel.
The rally will travel from Jammu to Srinagar, with stops at selected tourist destinations, and will culminate in Srinagar on September 26 with a Sufi concert by the Nizami Brothers at SKICC, Dal. Organised by FICCI FLO JKL under the theme “Where Music Meets Purpose,” the concert will also support education for children of J&K Police martyrs.
Among those present at the flag-off were Dr Kunwarani Ritu Singh and Varuna Anand, National Initiative Heads; FICCI FLO JKL Senior Vice Chairperson Rupika Sahai; Vice Chairperson Sona Mehta; and Joint Treasurer Tanisha Pallan.
