JAMMU: On the directions of Director Animal Husbandry Jammu, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the Extension & Publicity Wing, Directorate of Animal Husbandry Jammu, successfully concluded a two-day extensive tour of Rajouri and Poonch districts, aimed at strengthening field-level outreach, creating awareness among livestock farmers about various departmental schemes and programmes and promoting scientific animal husbandry management practices.
During the tour, the team of Extension and Publicity Wing, headed by Dr. Suresh Kumar, Extension Officer, organized dedicated awareness camps at Chingus, Rajouri and Naka Manjhari, Poonch as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to establish connect with the farmers especially those residing in remote and hilly areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Suresh Kumar apprised farmers about various government schemes and programmes, including Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Integrated Dairy Development Scheme (IDDS), Integrated Poultry Development Programme (IPDP) and other initiatives aimed at promoting entrepreneurship development in dairy and poultry sectors.
A significant component of the awareness programmes was livestock disease prevention and management with particular emphasis on Lumpy Skin Disease. Farmers were sensitised regarding the clinical signs of the disease, preventive measures, vector control and the importance of immediately reporting suspected cases to the nearest veterinary centre or dispensary.
The officers and staff of the Animal Husbandry Department in twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch extended their full cooperation in facilitating the awareness programmes and ensuring good participation of the local farming community in the camps.
The awareness camp at Chingus, Rajouri, was attended by the Disease Investigation Officer (DIO), Rajouri, Dr. Sandeep Khanmotra, Ex-Sarpanch, Chingus Sanjeev Sayal, officers and staff from AHD Rajouri and a large number of farmers. Similarly, the camp at Naka Manjhari, Poonch, was attended by Ex-PRI member, Mohammad Sadiq, other prominent citizens, officers and staff from AHD Poonch besides farmers in good numbers were also present.
