NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hailed the successful launch of ISRO’s GSLV-F17 carrying the Advanced Earth Observation Satellite-05 (EOS-05), describing the mission as an “outstanding achievement” and a proud moment for the country.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said the successful launch of EOS-05, India’s first imaging satellite from geosynchronous orbit, reflected the “excellence, innovation and growing capabilities” of India’s space sector.
“Yet another outstanding achievement by ISRO and a proud moment for our nation,” Modi said.
He also highlighted the growing partnership between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Indian industry, saying the collaboration was adding strength and scale to the country’s space programme.
“The growing partnership between ISRO and Indian industry is adding new strength and scale to our space programme and expanding India’s capabilities across the entire space ecosystem,” the Prime Minister said.
ISRO chief V. Narayanan said the GSLV-F17 vehicle successfully and precisely injected EOS-05 into its intended orbit.
He said the satellite, weighing 2,367 kg, was the heaviest spacecraft injected using the launch vehicle and added that its health was “perfectly alright”.
Once operationalised, EOS-05 will become India’s first dedicated imaging satellite from geosynchronous orbit and is expected to provide important strategic and Earth observation data.
The mission was launched from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, aboard GSLV-F17, marking the 19th flight of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle.
The successful mission adds another milestone to India’s expanding space programme and reinforces the country’s growing capabilities in advanced Earth observation and satellite deployment.
