JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has accorded administrative approval for two major parking infrastructure projects in Jammu city at a combined cost of about ₹49.34 crore, aimed at easing congestion and improving organised parking facilities in key areas.
According to Government Order No. 184-JK (HUD) of 2026, dated August 31, the Housing and Urban Development Department has approved ₹24.065 crore for construction of a Parking-cum-Commercial Complex at Parade, Jammu, and ₹25.2749 crore for construction of a Multilevel Car Parking facility at SMGS Hospital, Jammu.
The approval has been accorded under the Capex Budget 2026-27, with financial assistance to Jammu Municipal Corporation.
The Parade project envisages development of a commercial-cum-parking facility designed to address the chronic shortage of organised parking space in one of Jammu city’s busiest commercial areas. The cost abstract attached with the proposal also provides for modern parking-related infrastructure and associated civil and utility works.
The second project proposes a multilevel car parking facility at SMGS Hospital, Shalamar, intended to improve parking management around the major healthcare institution and reduce congestion caused by vehicles of patients, attendants and visitors.
The administrative approval is subject to several conditions, including availability of funds, completion of statutory and regulatory clearances, adherence to approved designs and specifications, e-tendering, strict cost control and timely execution.
The order also stipulates that there should be no cost or time overrun, duplication of funding or diversion of funds, while the executing agency will be required to maintain photographic evidence of works during implementation.
The projects are expected to provide a significant boost to Jammu’s urban infrastructure, particularly in high-footfall areas where inadequate parking has remained a persistent civic issue.
