JAMMU: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Sunday mobilised men, machinery and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) after heavy rainfall in the early morning hours caused waterlogging in several parts of Jammu city.
According to the civic body, water accumulation was reported from Rajinder Nagar, Muthi, Patta Bohri, Lakhdata Bazar and Bantalab following intense rainfall.
In Rajinder Nagar and Patta Bohri, where works of the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED) are underway, temporary storage of construction material near the work sites contributed to waterlogging. Following complaints from residents, JMC teams were deployed and cleared the accumulated water within an hour, restoring normal conditions.
The Corporation said ongoing nallah construction works under the Floods SSASCI initiative are expected to be completed in the coming months and would provide a permanent solution to drainage problems in the affected areas.
Near Pawan Ice Cream, JMC teams carried out operations in coordination with National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) officials. During the inspection, a side drain at the NHIDCL work site was found blocked by construction material, resulting in water accumulation.
The obstruction was subsequently removed and dewatering operations were carried out, following which the situation was brought under control.
JMC said it continues to closely monitor vulnerable locations across the city during the ongoing monsoon and remains committed to ensuring public convenience and safety.
The Corporation has also appealed to residents to report civic issues for prompt intervention through its helpline number 1800-180-7207.
