JAMMU: A one-day workshop on Cyber Crimes and Cybersecurity was held today at the Conference Hall, District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu.
The interactive session, aimed at enhancing awareness and preparedness against cyber threats, witnessed enthusiastic participation from officers across the Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range and members of the media fraternity.
Around 200 officers, including probationary DySPs and SIs, attended the workshop and engaged in lively discussions on digital safety and cybercrime prevention.
The event was formally inaugurated by DIG JKS Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, in the presence of SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, JKPS, and other senior officers of Jammu Police.
The key guest speaker, Mohd. Yaseen Kichloo, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Cyber Crime Investigation Centre for Excellence (CICE), J&K, delivered an enlightening address highlighting the rapidly evolving landscape of cyber threats. He discussed major forms of cybercrime, including hacking, phishing, whisking, pharming, email bombing, salami attacks, steganography, skimming, vishing, and the misuse of digital platforms for pornography.
He also emphasized the importance of adopting secure digital practices and continuous vigilance, sharing real-life case insights and preventive strategies. “Cyber threats evolve faster than we can imagine; our defense lies in awareness, training, and responsible digital behavior,” he stated.
The workshop covered a wide range of topics — from online frauds and social media safety to secure digital habits and reporting mechanisms for cybercrime victims.
In his remarks, DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma underscored the need for community engagement, noting that “Awareness is our first line of defense. By educating citizens, we empower them to protect themselves and report suspicious activity.”
SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, JKPS, reaffirmed the police department’s commitment to public safety and stressed on collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and the community to build a safer digital environment.
The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session and the distribution of educational materials on cyber hygiene. Participants appreciated the initiative and called for similar training programs across the region to strengthen cyber resilience at all levels.
