LEH: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, today reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the UT Ladakh Administration towards the speedy restoration and holistic development of flood-affected areas in the region. He said that every possible measure is being taken to rehabilitate affected families and rebuild damaged infrastructure with a long-term vision of resilience and sustainability.
The Lt Governor made these remarks while interacting with a delegation led by Konchok Stanzin, Councillor from Chushul, at the LG Secretariat.
He assured the delegation that the Administration is working in mission mode to ensure timely redressal of grievances and restoration of normalcy. Special attention, he emphasized, is being given to vulnerable sections — including women, children, and the elderly — to safeguard their well-being.
Highlighting the coordinated efforts of all government departments, Gupta said that relief operations, restoration of essential services, and reconstruction of critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and utilities are being expedited. He urged local representatives to actively participate in monitoring relief measures and provide feedback to ensure transparency and efficiency.
Reiterating his commitment, the Lt Governor affirmed that recovery efforts will not only address immediate needs but also strengthen Ladakh’s capacity to withstand future natural calamities, fostering sustainable development and resilience.
Earlier, Councillor Konchok Stanzin apprised the Lt Governor of the damages caused by the August 12 flash floods in Maan and Merak villages, highlighting challenges related to connectivity, housing, and livelihoods.
The Lt Governor also met with other delegations, including:
- Liktse village delegation led by His Eminence Khamtak Rinpoche, which sought assistance for sustaining 1.5 lakh saplings planted in recent years and requested support for a community centre to provide traditional education to youth.
- Artisans’ delegation, which apprised him of the upcoming Enchanting Ladakh festival and IITF participation, and requested better placement of Ladakhi artisan stalls at Dilli Haat.
- All Ladakh Transport Association, which submitted demands related to blacktopping, parking space, and basic facilities at Bomb Garh.
The Lt Governor appreciated the constructive discussions with all delegations and assured that their concerns and suggestions will be prioritized in recovery and development plans. He reiterated that the UT Administration is committed not only to restoring flood-hit areas but also to promoting livelihood opportunities, cultural preservation, and modern infrastructure development.
“Continuous engagement with local communities and stakeholders will remain a cornerstone of the UT Administration’s approach. Our goal is to build a safer, resilient, and prosperous Ladakh,” Gupta said.
