JAMMU: In a major step towards easing passenger inconvenience and managing heavy rush during the upcoming festival season, the Railway Administration has launched the Mobile Unreserved Ticketing System (M-UTS) service in the Jammu Division.
The new facility aims to reduce long queues at ticket counters and provide passengers with convenient access to unreserved journey and platform tickets, particularly during festivals and emergency situations.
Under the digital initiative, railway commercial staff equipped with handheld devices and Bluetooth thermal printers will move across platforms, waiting halls and other crowded areas of Jammu Railway Station to issue tickets on the spot. Passengers will be able to make payments either in cash or through UPI by scanning QR codes.
To expand the reach of the facility and ensure smooth operations during the busy festival period, the Railway Administration has invited applications for the engagement of five M-UTS Sahayaks (Assistants). Eligible and interested candidates will be considered for the positions, with retired railway employees potentially receiving preference as per applicable rules.
Providing details of the initiative, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager said that saving passengers’ time and controlling congestion at the station during festivals and emergencies remained the Railway’s top priorities.
He said the M-UTS service would bring ticketing facilities directly to passengers, significantly reducing dependence on conventional ticket counters.
The five proposed M-UTS Sahayaks will assist passengers by issuing tickets through mobile vending facilities within the station premises and will also support railway staff in managing crowds during festivals and emergency situations.
The initiative is expected to improve passenger convenience, streamline ticketing operations and strengthen crowd management at Jammu Railway Station.
