JAMMU: A special campaign was launched by the Indian Railways in the Jammu division on Friday to ensure a safe and smooth यात्रा for devotees visiting the shrine of Vaishno Devi Temple during the ongoing Chaitra Navratri.
The drive, held at Jammu and Katra railway stations, was conducted under the supervision of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal. Special arrangements were made to manage the surge in passenger traffic during the festive period.
Personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), ticket-checking staff, and volunteers from the Bharat Scouts and Guides were deployed to assist passengers and maintain order.
Volunteers guided passengers on platforms, with particular attention to the elderly, women and persons with disabilities. They also spread awareness about safety measures, urging travellers to avoid boarding moving trains or standing on footboards.
Ticket-checking staff carried out intensive inspections on trains and platforms, taking strict action against ticketless travellers to ensure convenience for passengers with valid reservations.
To ease congestion at ticket counters, passengers were encouraged to use the RailOne app and adopt digital payment methods. Announcements were also made through the public address system, appealing to commuters to maintain cleanliness and travel with valid tickets.
Additionally, help desks were set up at stations to assist devotees with travel-related queries.
Speaking on the initiative, Singhal said the aim was not just revenue generation but ensuring that every pilgrim completes their journey safely and comfortably. He urged passengers to cooperate with railway authorities by following safety norms.
The campaign is part of efforts to streamline operations and enhance passenger experience during the high footfall witnessed in the Navratri season.
