SRINAGAR: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, on Friday chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir to assess and strengthen security arrangements ahead of an upcoming VVIP visit to Jammu & Kashmir.
The meeting witnessed participation from senior officers of multiple security and intelligence agencies, including Police, Army, CRPF, ITBP, BSF, SSB, CID, Traffic, Railways and other allied units. Among those present were Additional Commissioner SB Srinagar; DIsG of CRPF (South/North Srinagar) and CRPF Srinagar Sector; DIG Armed Kashmir; DIsG BSF and SSB Srinagar; DIsG IRP/Traffic Kashmir and CID Kashmir; all Range DIsG of Kashmir Zone; all District SSsP of Kashmir Zone; SSP Traffic City Srinagar; Assistant Director SIB Srinagar; Colonel GS 15 Corps; and SSsP of PCR Kashmir, Traffic Rural Kashmir, Railways Kashmir, CID SB Kashmir, Security Kashmir, APCR, besides other senior officers.
During the meeting, detailed security plans were presented and comprehensively reviewed to ensure foolproof arrangements for the VVIP visit. IGP Kashmir emphasized heightened alertness to effectively counter potential terrorist threats and stressed the need to strengthen intelligence gathering mechanisms across the Valley.
He directed officers to reinforce security at vulnerable locations, intensify area domination and night patrolling, and ensure the protection of critical infrastructure and vital installations. The strategic deployment of Counter-Insurgency (CI) teams and Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) was also discussed to ensure swift response to any emerging situation.
Birdi instructed that security measures be enhanced across both urban and rural areas, with round-the-clock patrolling and strengthened surveillance at key entry and exit points. He further directed officers to ensure thorough briefing of personnel on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and to closely monitor vulnerable areas for prompt action against any suspicious activity.
Officers from various agencies reaffirmed their commitment to coordinated implementation of the security plan. Concluding the meeting, the IGP reiterated the collective responsibility of all forces to maintain a secure environment and ensure the safety of the VVIP, residents, and visitors alike.
