JAMMU: The World Women Awakening Organisation (WWAO) on Thursday organised a thought-provoking seminar at the MAM College Auditorium on the theme “Exploitation of Women at Home and Workplace.”
Vice President of WWAO, Veena Handa, welcomed the Chief Guest Priya Sethi, Senior BJP Leader and former Education Minister, with a bouquet of flowers.
The technical session offered comprehensive guidance on protection, prevention and legal safeguards available to women. The seminar received wide appreciation from the packed auditorium comprising students from various colleges. Advocate Deepali Sharma delivered an insightful overview of the legal framework surrounding women’s rights, while Shashikala highlighted the urgent need to educate the masses to transform societal mindsets. Former DySP Shashi Thakur informed the audience about avenues for seeking immediate police assistance and protection in cases of exploitation. Other speakers included Prof. Ekta Gupta and Surbhi Kohli.
Prof. D.S. Manhas, Dean of Students Welfare at Cluster University of Jammu, congratulated WWAO for choosing such a sensitive and socially relevant topic.
In her address, Priya Sethi lauded the organisers for conducting a meaningful seminar and appreciated the participation of both male and female students. She underscored the importance of ensuring women’s safety and urged everyone to speak up against any form of exploitation.
Veena Handa presented a memento to the Chief Guest Priya Sethi, Indra Rathore honoured Prof. D.S. Manhas, while Sarla Kohli presented a memento to the Guest of Honour, Principal Prof. Archna Koul.
The proceedings were conducted by Sarla Kohli, and the programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Indira Rathore, who expressed gratitude to the college administration and distinguished speakers for their contributions towards promoting women’s safety and empowerment.
