JAMMU: As part of the ongoing Swachh Republic Day campaign, Dr. Devansh Yadav, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), on Tuesday conducted a comprehensive inspection of sanitation and encroachment issues in Wards 30, 31, 32 and 40, covering Talab Tillo, Gol Gujral, Punch House and adjoining areas.
During the visit, the Commissioner reviewed the overall cleanliness scenario, including door-to-door garbage collection, lifting of legacy waste, cleanliness of streets and inner lanes, and desilting of drains. He inspected major roads, bylanes and public spaces to assess the on-ground implementation of sanitation measures being undertaken under the Swachh Republic Day initiative.
Dr. Yadav also took serious note of illegal encroachments on footpaths, roads and other public spaces, which were found to be causing inconvenience to pedestrians and obstructing vehicular movement. The inspection witnessed demolition of illegal stalls and removal of vendors operating on sidewalks.
He directed the concerned enforcement teams to carry out anti-encroachment actions in a systematic and time-bound manner, ensuring that reclaimed public spaces are restored for public use and remain free from re-encroachment.
Emphasising strict enforcement, the Commissioner instructed officials to conduct regular anti-encroachment drives and maintain close coordination between the sanitation and enforcement wings. He said such measures are vital for ensuring smooth traffic flow, pedestrian safety and improved urban cleanliness.
Interacting with local residents and shopkeepers, Dr. Yadav sought their cooperation in maintaining cleanliness and complying with municipal regulations. He urged citizens to avoid littering, ensure segregation of waste at source, and refrain from encroaching upon public land.
Reiterating the objectives of the Swachh Republic Day campaign, the Commissioner said the initiative aims to ensure a clean, hygienic and encroachment-free city ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, reaffirming the JMC’s commitment to improving civic amenities and enhancing the quality of life for the people of Jammu.
