JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday hoisted the Tricolour and inaugurated the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Flag Point at JDA Park, Ram Vihar, Jammu, to mark the 82nd anniversary of the historic hoisting of the national flag on Indian soil by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 1943.
Recalling December 30, 1943, when Netaji declared Port Blair free from British rule, the Lieutenant Governor said the initiative was aimed at commemorating Netaji’s unparalleled contribution to India’s freedom struggle and his enduring legacy.
Paying tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the Lieutenant Governor said the slogan “Jai Hind,” given by Netaji, remains a timeless symbol of national valour that united the Azad Hind Fauj and continues to inspire 140 crore Indians. He highlighted Netaji’s belief in unity as the foundation of nation-building, his advocacy for Swaraj, empowerment of youth and women, and his emphasis on industrialisation and small-scale industries, which laid the groundwork for a self-reliant India.
The Lieutenant Governor expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring that Netaji’s legacy receives its rightful recognition in India’s history. He described Jammu as a symbol of national unity and an unbroken cultural stream, noting that the people of the region have preserved the spirit of complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir through generations.
“Our unity is our greatest strength. We must remain united and preserve our shared heritage and values,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor appreciated the collaborative efforts of the Jammu Municipal Corporation, Jammu Development Authority, Housing and Urban Development Department, and the District Administration in honouring Netaji’s legacy, and called for regular commemorative events on December 30 every year.
On the occasion, he visited a photo gallery depicting the life and contributions of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, while a documentary highlighting Netaji’s leadership and role in India’s independence was also screened.
Several dignitaries, including Members of Legislative Assembly, senior civil and police officers, Padma awardees, prominent citizens, and people from different walks of life, attended the national flag hoisting ceremony.
