SRINAGAR: Parvez Rasool, the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to represent India, has announced his retirement from all formats of the game, drawing curtains on a remarkable 17-year-long career marked by consistency, resilience, and historic milestones.
The 36-year-old all-rounder from Bijbehara in South Kashmir, who inspired a generation of young cricketers from the Valley, formally informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his decision.
Rasool represented India in one One-Day International (ODI) and one T20 International and featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Pune Warriors India and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Reflecting on his journey, Rasool said he felt proud to have been part of Jammu and Kashmir cricket’s growth story over the years.
A proven match-winner in domestic cricket, Rasool scored 5,648 runs and claimed 352 wickets in First-Class matches. His outstanding all-round performances earned him the Lala Amarnath Award for Best All-Rounder in the Ranji Trophy twice — in 2013–14 and 2017–18.
Rasool’s breakout season came in 2012–13, when he amassed 594 runs and took 33 wickets, a performance that opened the doors to national and IPL recognition.
As he bids adieu to the game, Rasool leaves behind a legacy that continues to inspire young cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir to dream big and aim higher.
