REASI: Continuing its relentless drive against narcotics, Reasi Police achieved a major success when a team from Police Station Katra apprehended a notorious drug peddler near the Tarakote area.
The accused has been identified as Pawan Singh @ Pammi, son of Vakil Singh, resident of Serbad, Tehsil Katra. He was intercepted on foot while moving towards Katra town from Reasi side. During the search, police recovered 21 grams of heroin-like substance and cash amounting to ₹30,800 from his possession.
An FIR No. 273/2025 under sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Katra. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and his network of suppliers and buyers.
Pawan Singh is a habitual offender with a long criminal history, previously involved in multiple NDPS and Arms Act cases, including FIRs registered in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2025, along with entries in the daily diary register for prior drug-related offenses. He has also been detained earlier under the PIT NDPS Act for repeated involvement in drug trafficking.
The operation was led by SHO P/S Katra Insp. Khyatiman Khajuria, under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey and SP Katra Vipan Chandran.
Appreciating the efforts of the police team, SSP Reasi Sh. Paramvir Singh said,
“District Police Reasi is fully committed to making Reasi drug-free. We are adopting a zero-tolerance policy towards drug peddlers and habitual offenders. Public cooperation is equally important — we urge citizens to report any information related to drug smuggling or distribution so strict action can be taken against those ruining the lives of our youth.”
The successful operation underscores Reasi Police’s dedication to eradicating the drug menace and ensuring a safe, healthy, and crime-free environment in the district.
