JAMMU: In the aftermath of the unprecedented natural calamity impacting various regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Commissioner/Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Sourab Bhagat, conducted an extensive on-ground review of the petroleum supply chain to ensure uninterrupted delivery of petrol, diesel, and LPG across the Union Territory, with special focus on Srinagar and the Chenab Valley.
As part of the inspection, the Commissioner/Secretary visited the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Depot at Narwal, Jammu, to obtain firsthand insights into petroleum product availability and the operational hurdles being faced by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).
The Territorial Manager of IOC apprised Mr. Bhagat of the real-time supply monitoring system enabled through GPS-based tracking of tank lorries (TTs). He further briefed about TTs that have reached their destinations, those currently en route, and others delayed due to partial blockades on the National Highway.
The official also appreciated the department’s timely intervention in prioritizing clearance of critical railway racks carrying 21,000 KL of petroleum products, which has significantly contributed to stabilizing supplies.
Issuing clear directives to all OMCs, Mr. Bhagat emphasized strict adherence to designated routes and advised increased use of the alternative Mughal Road corridor until NH-44 resumes full operation. He expressed satisfaction over the availability of buffer stocks at depot levels and commended the Legal Metrology Department for ensuring timely supply and fair distribution to consumers during the crisis.
OMC representatives, including those from IOC, HPCL, and BPCL, reaffirmed their commitment to redouble efforts in replenishing supplies across affected areas, assuring seamless coordination with the administration to overcome logistical bottlenecks.
The Commissioner/Secretary was accompanied by the Director Finance (FCS&CA), Special Secretary (FCS&CA), Deputy Controller (Legal Metrology), and senior officials of IOC, HPCL, and BPCL.
