JAMMU: In the aftermath of the devastating floods that have wreaked havoc across Jammu, Leader of Opposition in the J&K Assembly, Sunil Sharma, accompanied by MLA Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi, conducted an extensive tour of the flood-affected areas today to assess damages and extend solidarity with residents.
The leaders visited some of the worst-hit localities, including Rajiv Colony, Rajinder Nagar, Vikram Chowk, Goyal Lane, Old University Lane, Fisheries Mohalla, Rajiv Nagar Canal Road, Qasim Nagar, Goswami Mohalla, Jogi Gate, Peerkho, and Roop Nagar, where they witnessed widespread destruction—damaged homes, collapsed infrastructure, and displaced families struggling in the aftermath of incessant rains.
Speaking to the media, Sunil Sharma described the situation as “deeply distressing and heart-wrenching,” noting that many families had lost everything overnight. He interacted with affected residents, listened to their concerns, and assured them of immediate and comprehensive relief measures.
“No affected citizen will be left behind in this hour of crisis. Efforts are being made to ensure the supply of essential services including water, electricity, and food,” Sharma said. He also commended the humanitarian gesture of the BJP-led governments of Haryana and Madhya Pradesh for extending financial aid to flood victims, adding that other BJP-ruled states are also being approached for assistance.
Reassuring the public, he added: “Your courage in the face of such adversity is commendable and we are with you—not just in words but in action. Every possible measure will be taken to restore normalcy swiftly.”
Sharma and Sethi also called for urgent coordination between disaster management agencies, municipal bodies, and the local administration to accelerate relief distribution and rehabilitation efforts.
Yudhvir Sethi reiterated his commitment to his constituency, assuring that affected families will continue to receive support and assistance during this crisis.
