MUMBAI: Mumbai Indians have appointed Luke Williams as their new Head Coach ahead of the 2027 Women’s Premier League season, with Lisa Keightley stepping down from the role.
Williams brings extensive experience in women’s cricket, having been part of title-winning campaigns in the Women’s Big Bash League in Australia in 2022 and 2023, The Hundred in England as Assistant Coach in 2023, and the WPL in India in 2024.
Welcoming Williams to the Mumbai Indians family, Nita M. Ambani said his experience and understanding of the women’s game would add value to the team. She also thanked Keightley for her contribution and wished her well for the future.
Williams, a former first-class cricketer for South Australia, has spent two decades coaching across Australia, England and India. He has also served as Assistant Coach with the England women’s team since 2025 and is a three-time recipient of the Bradman Medal for grade cricket.
“I’m really excited to be joining Mumbai Indians, a respected and successful organisation, and working with this talented group of players and support staff,” Williams said. He added that the team had an opportunity to build together, play an exciting brand of cricket and compete for success.
Mumbai Indians have won two of the four WPL editions, lifting the title in 2023 and 2025 under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur. The franchise is owned by Reliance Industries Limited through its subsidiary Indiawin Sports Private Limited and operates teams across multiple global T20 competitions.
