RAJOURI: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma today chaired a meeting to deliberate on rural-urban convergence for effective segregation, collection, processing and disposal of dry and wet waste in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for segregation of dry and wet waste at source to ensure scientific and efficient waste management. He directed the Rural Development Department and Municipal bodies to chalk out a comprehensive convergence plan for collection and disposal of wet and dry waste in peri-urban areas.
The Deputy Commissioner said that Municipal Council Rajouri and Municipal Committee Sunderbani shall be accorded first priority under the convergence initiative. He stressed coordinated efforts between rural and urban local bodies to establish an efficient waste management mechanism in areas adjoining municipal limits.
Assistant Commissioner Panchayat (ACP) Rajouri also made a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the proposed mechanism for collection, segregation and disposal of wet and dry waste in rural areas.
The DC called for close coordination among all concerned departments and directed that the proposed convergence plan be implemented in a systematic manner, with focus on source segregation, proper collection and scientific processing of waste.
The meeting was attended by the ADDC, Malik Zada Sheraz Ul Haq; ADC Rajouri, Ravi Kumar Sihag; ACD, Sheraz Chowhan; EO MC Rajouri, Ashiq Rafiq Malik and EO MC Sunderbani, Dilip Kumar.
