KATRA: Continuing its crackdown on drug trafficking, Reasi Police arrested an alleged drug peddler and recovered 6.9 grams of heroin during routine naka checking in Katra, police said.
According to police, a patrolling and naka party of Police Station Katra intercepted the accused at Masjid Chowk near New Bus Stand, Katra, at around 11:50 pm on September 2 while he was coming from Jammu towards Katra.
The accused has been identified as Altaf Hussain, son of Rustam Ali, resident of Banganga, Tehsil Katra, District Reasi.
Police said a personal search of the accused led to the recovery of 6.9 grams of heroin, along with a poly pouch, from the left pocket of his jeans.
The accused allegedly failed to provide any satisfactory explanation regarding possession of the contraband.
Accordingly, FIR No. 280/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Katra and the accused was arrested.
Police said further investigation is underway, with backward and forward linkages being examined to identify the source of the contraband and its intended recipients.
Reasi Police reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and urged the public to share information regarding the illegal sale or supply of narcotics with the nearest police station.
