SRINAGAR: The Committee on Petitions of J&K Legislative Assembly today met under the Chairmanship of Pirzada Farooq Ahmad Shah to examine the long-pending grievance of residents of Khimber Hazratbal regarding illegal occupation of their traditional grazing land.
The meeting was attended by Members of the Committee including Javaid Riyaz (Bedar), Dr. Sajjad Shafi, Javaid Iqbal Choudhary and Shagun Parihar.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo; SDM East Srinagar, other concerned officers, besides officers of the Assembly Secretariat were also present in the meeting .
During the meeting , the Chairman observed that Government land belongs to the people and must not be allowed to fall into the hands of a few. He assured that the Committee will not allow such injustices to continue and will take every possible step to restore the rights of the common man, safeguard public property for future generations.
The Chairman directed that strict action be taken against all those found involved in the illegal encroachment of Government land. He instructed the District Administration to identify and take to task the land mafia and other elements involved, and to retrieve the illegally occupied land immediately.
The Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, during the meeting, briefed the Committee in detail about the illegal occupation of their traditional grazing land in Khimber Hazratbal.
