JAMMU: Stephens International Public School (SIPS) successfully hosted the three-day CBSE Kabaddi Cluster-XVIII (2026-27), bringing together around 500 participants from 20 CBSE-affiliated schools across the region.
The sporting event was inaugurated by Nagrota MLA Devyani Singh as the Chief Guest, while SSP Suram Singh attended as the Guest of Honour. They were joined by Director Satvinder Saini, Trustee Adv. Kunal Saini, the Principal, Vice Principal, Headmistress, coordinators and faculty members.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with a welcome song by the school choir, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the mashaal, marking the beginning of the championship.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Devyani Singh appreciated the CBSE’s efforts to promote indigenous sports and encouraged students to strike a balance between academics and physical fitness. SSP Suram Singh highlighted the importance of discipline, teamwork and perseverance, describing Kabaddi as “a game of strength, strategy and stamina.”
Welcoming the dignitaries and participating teams, Trustee Adv. Kunal Saini reaffirmed the school’s commitment to providing holistic education by promoting excellence in both academics and sports.
Following the inauguration, matches commenced in full swing, with participants displaying remarkable agility, endurance and sportsmanship. Competitions are being held in the Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 categories for both boys and girls. CBSE-appointed referees and officials are supervising the matches to ensure fair play and adherence to competition standards.
The three-day championship will conclude on Sunday with the finals, followed by the prize distribution ceremony honouring the winners and outstanding performers.
