UDHAMPUR: A one-day Commercial Floriculture Training Programme was today organized by the Department of Floriculture, Parks & Gardens at Village Basht under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme ATMA.
The event aimed to promote commercial floriculture activities and enhance farmer welfare through the adoption of scientific cultivation methods for flowers such as marigold and other commercially viable varieties.
A large number of enthusiastic farmers participated in the training, reflecting strong interest in sustainable income opportunities through floriculture.
The event was conducted under the overall guidance of Director General, Floriculture, Vivek Sharma and supervision of Vikrant Kumar Sharma, Joint Director, Floriculture, Parks & Gardens, Jammu.
Notable experts present included Dr. Sanjay Kaushal, Scientist, KVK Reasi and Pawan Kumar, Assistant Floriculture Officer, Udhampur, along with other technical officers.
Joint Director Vikrant Sharma assured the farmers of every possible support from the department, including both technical and financial assistance under various Centrally Sponsored Schemes. He encouraged farmers to adopt high-yielding flower varieties, modern techniques like drip irrigation, mulching, raised-bed farming, and integrated pest management (IPM), which can enhance productivity and profitability in hilly terrains.
Dr. Sanjay Kaushal delivered an in-depth lecture focusing on organic farming practices, suitable cropping patterns, and the adoption of the latest technologies in commercial floriculture. He demonstrated scientific techniques in flower cultivation, post-harvest handling, and effective marketing strategies.
Pawan Kumar, Assistant Floriculture Officer, Udhampur, presented detailed insights into region-specific marigold cultivation, including nursery management, soil health, spacing, fertilization, disease management, and post-harvest care.
