SRINAGAR: Security has been intensified across Kashmir ahead of Republic Day celebrations, with police stepping up patrolling and vehicle checks across the Valley to prevent any attempts to disrupt the national event, officials said on Thursday.
Roads leading to Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, the venue for the main official Republic Day function in Kashmir, have been fortified with multiple security barricades and checkpoints.
Senior police officers at the district level are personally supervising the security arrangements to ensure effective and seamless implementation of the overall security plan, officials said.
“In view of the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations, police have enhanced security and checking measures across the Valley to ensure a peaceful, safe and incident-free observance of the national event,” officials said.
As part of the strengthened security grid, police personnel have been deployed at strategic locations, particularly in Srinagar city. Special checkpoints and mobile patrols have been established, where thorough checking of vehicles and individuals is being carried out.
Officials said night patrols and surprise inspections are also underway to maintain heightened vigilance and deter any attempt to disturb public order. Additional deployments have been made in sensitive areas, with a special focus on monitoring suspicious movements.
The police have appealed to the general public to cooperate during checking and verification procedures and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or the Police Control Room.
