JAMMU: Students of Heritage School, accompanied by their teachers, visited the Swadeshi Mela at Bahu Plaza on Tuesday to express solidarity with the initiative promoting Swadeshi products and indigenous industries.
The visit aimed to educate students about local handicrafts, traditional skills, and the importance of supporting indigenous livelihoods, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Make in India, Swadeshi, Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat.
Organised under the aegis of BJP J&K leadership, the Swadeshi Mela showcases award-winning local products and features dedicated stalls highlighting Jammu and Kashmir’s traditional crafts and dying cuisines. The initiative provides artisans, craftsmen, and traditional food makers a platform to display their work, connect with wider audiences, and strengthen local economies while preserving cultural heritage.
During the visit, students interacted with artisans and stallholders, gaining first-hand exposure to indigenous products and traditional craftsmanship. The experience helped instil values of conscious consumption, self-reliance, and appreciation for local skills, while highlighting the role of youth in sustaining traditional livelihoods.
The visit reinforced Heritage School’s commitment to experiential learning and social responsibility, while encouraging students to contribute meaningfully towards preserving cultural heritage and supporting a self-reliant and developed India through informed and responsible choices.
