JAMMU: The International Day for Persons with Disabilities was observed at the Auditorium of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, with the theme “Celebrating Ability, Preserving Culture.”
The programme was organised by the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), CRC Samba, Jammu, aiming to foster awareness, inclusion, and respect for diverse abilities.
The event was graced by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who attended as the Chief Guest.
Students of B.Ed. Special Education Semester I and III from MIER College of Education (Autonomous), under the guidance of Dr. Nishta Rana, Head, School of Education, actively participated in the celebrations. A group of fourteen students presented an impactful skit on inclusive education, emphasising acceptance, empathy, peer collaboration, classroom adaptations, and the vital role educators play in nurturing an inclusive learning environment.
The participation was coordinated by Dr. C. R. Jangra, Assistant Professor, Special Education.
Principal Prof. Adit Gupta lauded the efforts of the students, appreciating their contribution towards strengthening the values of inclusion and diversity. He reiterated the institution’s commitment to promoting disability-inclusive education and preparing future educators who are compassionate, skilled, and sensitised to the needs of all learners.
