JAMMU: Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) & Hospital, Jammu, successfully concluded PHYSIOMED 2025, a premier national integrated medical conclave dedicated to tackling “Diabesity” — the combined burden of diabetes and obesity.
The event earned prestigious academic recognition from the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), the apex academic body under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, underscoring its national relevance.
Large Participation & Academic Depth
The conclave witnessed overwhelming participation from over 350 delegates, including eminent faculty, clinicians, medical researchers, and postgraduate scholars from across the country. Postgraduate students from medical institutions within and outside Jammu & Kashmir presented scientific papers and posters, showcasing innovative research.
Inauguration & Addresses
The event was inaugurated with the blessings of Swami Prem Vivekanand and Swami Parmanand.
Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, graced the event as Chief Guest and lauded the efforts of the organizers. He emphasized the importance of outdoor physical activity for youth to curb visceral obesity and encouraged children to embrace healthy, home-cooked diets.
Dr. Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal, appreciated the initiative and highlighted the need for a comprehensive, multidisciplinary strategy combining physiological understanding with advanced medical interventions to counter Diabesity.
Dr. Anil K. Gupta, Organising Chairperson and Head of Medicine, addressed the escalating health challenge with data-driven insights, calling for evidence-based strategies and collaborative clinical expertise to improve patient outcomes.
Dr. Geetika Gupta, Organising Chairperson and Professor & Head, Department of Physiology, discussed the thoughtful intent behind the theme. She emphasized the significance of ‘Embrace Arogyam’ for holistic well-being, advocating a multidisciplinary approach that integrates physiological insight with early intervention and behavioral empowerment. The meticulously curated scientific programme reflected this vision, encompassing all key dimensions of Diabesity.
The session opened with remarks from Dr. Abhinav Gupta and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Puneeta Gupta, Organising Secretaries.
Handout Release & Expert Panel
The occasion also featured the release of ‘Diabesity Insights – 2025’, a comprehensive academic handout detailing pathophysiological, clinical, and evidence-based perspectives. The publication was unveiled by Ramesh Kumar and Rakesh Raman, Trustee, ASCOMS.
