KULGAM: Government Degree College (GDC) D.H. Pora, under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Abdul Salam Dar, today organised an awareness programme on Cyber Crime to sensitise students about the rapidly growing threats in the digital space.
Prof. Sajad Ahmad Shah, Head of the Department of Computer Applications, was the resource person on the occasion. He spoke at length about the exponential growth of cyber crime in India since 2012 and, through practical examples, explained common attack vectors used by hackers.
He advised students to remain cautious of suspicious messages, unverified calls, unknown QR codes, unsolicited OTP requests and fake mobile applications. He also shared information about official cyber crime reporting portals and emergency helpline numbers.
The Principal also addressed the students, emphasising the need for such awareness programmes in view of emerging cyber challenges and highlighted issues including cyberbullying, illegal activities in cyberspace, large-scale hacking and recent ATM-related frauds, stressing that even educated individuals often fall victim to such crimes. He advised students to use digital tools responsibly and drew attention to the growing phenomenon of smartphone addiction.
