JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra was detained along with dozens of senior party leaders and workers by the police on Tuesday evening after the party staged a sit-in protest outside Lok Bhavan in Jammu.
The protest was organised in response to the detention of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders by Delhi Police during a demonstration in the national capital earlier in the day.
As news of the Delhi police action reached the Congress headquarters in Jammu, Karra, accompanied by senior party leaders and workers, marched to Lok Bhavan in the Panjtirthi area and staged a sit-in protest.
The protesters raised slogans against the Centre and demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Police later detained Karra along with several senior Congress leaders and party workers, bringing the protest to an end. Further details regarding the detentions were awaited.
