MVEAN wins gold at 4th National meet of American Field Services

JAMMU: Student of MV International School Sanjali from Class 8th has made the school and the UT of J&K, proud by clinching Gold Medal in National Painting Competition during the AFS National Meet held at Varanasi.
Her painting was declared as ‘All India Best Presentation' in group A category. This national meet was attended by 120 students, 60 AFS Coordinators and school Principals from 60 prominent schools of the country.
Manvi Bagul & Anshita Choudhary from class 9th, along with Ms. Navneet Kour AFS Coordinator were the school representatives.
The meet was organised by American Field Services (AFS), at the Sunbeam School, Varanasi. "Embrace Diversity & Inspire" was the theme of the meet in accordance with the AFS ethos for intercultural learning and helping students become global citizens.
Participating students exhibited their skill in poetry by describing unity in diversity of Indian culture. Students and teachers had an opportunity to meet each other and share their experiences, exchange cultures and learn from each other. Art conclave was the most exciting part of the event as the gold medal was awarded to MV International School.
Renowned educator, Dr. Sumer Singh, Former Principal of Daly College, Indore was the Chief Guest. Opening ceremony of this 3 day's event started with the melodious ‘Sur Prabha' which was prepared by the host school orchestra. It was followed by the felicitation of the Board members and a briefing about AFS, its vision & mission.
A bone-chilling performance by the students on the theme "hope for a world without wars" inspired everyone to think about how our world is becoming indifferent, each day and how we can change this to meaningful interactions where all cultures are represented and collaborative learning takes place.
Panel discussions on the theme, involved the student delegates to ardently interact with one another in presence of a moderator. The presentations were true to the vision of AFS, that helps students to become global citizens to uphold peace and display leadership beyond boundaries. AFS is not a competition but an amalgamation of all schools working towards a common goal of unity.
Schools are offered to have triangular exchange programs for students from different countries so that they can imbibe different cultures on their visit abroad. Address of the Chief Guest was truly enlightening and invigorating.
His book ‘Folklore History of India' was officially released, which was warmly welcomed by everyone. Christopher Hunter from AFS, laid stress on organising eye camps because people are often ignorant towards it and are less fortunate to get eye checkups done at ease. T
he delegates were also taken for a heritage walk to Sarnath, a historical site where Gautama Buddha first taught Dharma, followed by a boat ride to the famous Vishwanath Temple.
